The game began with both sides exercising caution, with Manchester City dominating possession while Manchester United held their defensive shape. Despite several promising attacks, neither team could find a breakthrough in the first half. City’s attempts to breach United’s defense were thwarted by solid performances from Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, who kept the scoreline level.

The match sprang to life in the second half, particularly after the introduction of Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho in the 61st minute. Garnacho, who looked lively from the moment he stepped onto the pitch, eventually broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute. Cutting inside from the right flank, he fired a low shot past Ederson to give United the lead, sending their fans into a frenzy.

City, however, refused to be beaten. Pushing forward with urgency, they found an equalizer in the 89th minute. Young talent Oscar Bobb made a decisive run down the right wing, delivering a pinpoint cross that found Bernardo Silva in the box. Silva rose above Facundo Pellistri to head the ball into the net, bringing City level and forcing the match into a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, the pressure was palpable. Bernardo Silva missed City’s opening penalty, putting them on the back foot, but United’s Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans also failed to convert their chances. With the shootout poised on a knife-edge, it was Swiss defender Manuel Akanji who stepped up and calmly slotted home the decisive penalty, securing a 7-6 victory for Manchester City.

This win not only adds another trophy to Manchester City’s collection but also reinforces their position as a dominant force in English football. It marks their seventh Community Shield triumph, with previous victories in 1937, 1968, 1972, 2012, 2018, and 2019. The victory at Wembley sets a positive tone for City as they embark on another season full of high expectations.
